Today's Shoot - Schools That Shine - Harrison Elementary

Today's Shoot - Schools That Shine - Harrison Elementary

Today we conducted one of our many Schools that Shine shoots at Harrison Elementary near Long Lake.  My colleague Mike was with me and he was the one doing the shooting today since I was in producer mode. The children were sort of faking a video shoot for us since the program they won this month's award for is a film-making program.  The students write scripts, shoot the video and then edit the final product in iMovie.  Their teacher Mrs. Merritt heads up the program.  After the shoot we headed to a great little sandwich place called "The Village Tie Up" in Harrison.  It's a general store kind of place and it's right on Long Lake.  I got a sandwich called "The Pot Belly"!  It was a delicious pulled pork sub with melted provolone cheese!  Check it out if you're in Harrison!

Pancake Breakfast & Chinese Auction for LRMS NJHS

Pancake Breakfast & Chinese Auction for LRMS NJHS

The Lake Region Middle School's chapter of the National Junior Honor Society has begun fundraising efforts for the annual trip to Washington, D.C.  A total of 17 eighth graders from LRMS, will be spending 5 days in our nations capitol, learning about the history of our country.  They will also be laying a wreath at the Tomb of the Unknown Soldier at Arlington Cemetery.

To acheive this goal, we will be hosting a pancake breakfast and chinese auction on Saturday April 2nd at Songo Locks School in Naples from 7am to 11am.  We have received many generous donations of items for both the breakfast and auction from local businesses which are greatly appreciated.

Tickets for the breakfast are $5 per person or $20 for a family ticket (over 4 people).  To purchase tickets in advance or to make a donation for the auction, please call 647-2000.  We hope to see you there.

SEMI PRO FOOTBALL RETURNS TO MAINE

Saturday will be the first public workout session for Maine's newest semi-professional
football team, the Maine Sabers.

For those who follow Maine football, the Maine Sabers is a familiar moniker. From 1991 through 1993,
the Sabers were Maine's dominant semi-professional football team.

In January, the Maine Sabers were officially admitted into the Eastern Football League, the oldest semi-
professional league in the nation, along with 15 other teams. The team is based in Portland and will
play at nearby fields such as Portland's Fitzpatrick Stadium or Scarborough High School's stadium. The
team's 2011 schedule has yet to be finalized but the season will run from late June through September.

The team was organized by Stephen Goodrich, a former administrator with the original Sabers and
Jason McLeod, Windham High School football team's offensive coordinator.
