STANDISH, Maine (NEWS CENTER) -- Students and staff at Saint Joseph's College held an eat local lunch as part of a sustainability festival to promote ways people can reduce their impact on the planet.

"The point of today is to really to celebrate sustainability and to turn people on to new things that they can do," explained St. Joe's sustainability coordinator Jeanne Gulnick.  "It's about what you can do at home, what you can buy, that can be a little bit greener alternative."

The lunch featured foods and products grown or made within about a 150 mile radius of the campus, including vegetables grown at the college's own farm located just across the road.

"We really wanted to start off the semester with a bang and let people know that this is something that is really, really important," stated Gulnick.  "Look what we are doing.  We are already doing a lot of great things and if we can just get everyone aware of all the things that are going on on campus and then some of the things they can do themselves."
