Windham Primary School opens new playground | News
WINDHAM, Maine (NEWS CENTER) -- After 2 years of planning and lots of community fundraising, one school in Windham is about to have some very happy kids.
The Windham Primary School opened it's brand new playground Saturday - with a swingset, jungle gym, chain ladder, and several slides.
While the kids are just excited to have a new space to play, planners also said the new surface will help reduce injuries.
A granite bench was also dedicated to Candace Woolston. She was a teacher at the school who passed away from cancer.
Parents said they are thankful for the safety features.
"Kids running around and playing and having such a good time makes it all worthwhile," said volunteer coordinator Michelle Jordan, "because the kids love it, and it is important to have something safe that's designed to students all shapes and sizes - which our old playground wasn't."
The playground cost a total of $140,000 - and $50,000 of that was raised through fundraisers and local businesses.
