Today's Shoot - Schools That Shine - Harrison Elementary

Today's Shoot - Schools That Shine - Harrison Elementary

Today we conducted one of our many Schools that Shine shoots at Harrison Elementary near Long Lake.  My colleague Mike was with me and he was the one doing the shooting today since I was in producer mode. The children were sort of faking a video shoot for us since the program they won this month's award for is a film-making program.  The students write scripts, shoot the video and then edit the final product in iMovie.  Their teacher Mrs. Merritt heads up the program.  After the shoot we headed to a great little sandwich place called "The Village Tie Up" in Harrison.  It's a general store kind of place and it's right on Long Lake.  I got a sandwich called "The Pot Belly"!  It was a delicious pulled pork sub with melted provolone cheese!  Check it out if you're in Harrison!

Naturally dyed Easter Eggs!

Naturally dyed Easter Eggs!

My children and I had a wonderful time dying Easter eggs this weekend.  We used natural dyes for a change and the results were quite good!  We had three colors, yellow from tumeric powder, pink from beet juice and blue from blueberries!  Here's how we did it with each color.

Pink: If you have beets for a meal save any water that they were cooked in and add the peelings from the skins to this water.  Boil this mixture for an hour or so and then cool.  Pour off about a cup of this liquid into a mug and add two tablespoons of vinegar to it.

Yellow:  Pour one cup of hot tap water into a mug.  Add one teaspoon of tumeric powder and two tablespoons of vinegar.

Blue:  Boil one cup of water with 1/2 - 2/3 cup of blueberries.  While they boil occaisionally mash the berries with a spoon or potato masher t

Windham Center Stage Presents : Pinocchio

In this adaptation of the Carlo Collodi novel Pinocchio, the little puppet with the long wooden nose is getting into mischief again. Pinocchio comes to life on his creator Gepetto's work table. It doesn't take Gepetto long to discover this is no ordinary puppet. Geppetto yearns for a real son and, before long, the two become best friends.

Pinocchio's curiosity leads him away from his creator. He runs away from home in the pursuit of adventure. Along the way, he meets some shady characters; but with the help of the blue fairy, Pinocchio is able to learn bravery, honesty, and unselfishness. In return, she grants Geppetto his wish.
