Saco River Volunteer Cleanup - Saturday, September 15
Saco River Volunteer Cleanup - Saturday, September 15

Volunteers wanted for the 6th annual Saco River Volunteer Cleanup.  Volunteers clean more than 35 miles of river from North Conway to Brownfield (groups are assigned a section) in canoes donated by the canoe companies of the Saco River Recreational Council in Conway, Fryeburg, and Brownfield.

Volunteers will meet Saturday morning at 8:30 am at Swans Falls for their trash bags, gloves, water and instructions and then will set out on the river for the day of cleaning the beaches, bankings and in the river. It is a lot of fun doing a great thing for our river.  Volunteers then return to Swans Falls Campground for a pasta dinner, campfire and much more. Camping is available for volunteers who choose to camp at the campground.

Who participates? Scout groups, high school groups, church groups, individuals and familes...  volunteers from around New England and locals.  This year the Maine Forest Service and Maine Dept of Agriculture Invasive Pests program will join the cleanup and then hold a special volunteer appreciation event and workshop from 12:30 to 2 pm.  Local law enforcement and Maine Forest Rangers will help out this year as well.  All this is free, you can join by emailing Michelle at or calling Swans Falls at 207-935-3395.  Together we make a difference!

This event is sponsored by local businesses and the Saco River Recreational Council, a non-profit organization for the protection of the Saco River. Thank you to Poland Springs, Hannaford Supermarkets in North Conway, Jockey Cap Country Store, Big Dave’s Bagels, Ben and Jerry’s, Fryeburg House of Pizza, and Thriftway Supermarket in Fryeburg.
