Best known for “Dance With Me” and “Still the One,” Orleans has more than earned its place in American pop culture history, and continues to sound better than ever. The Orleans Trio, with original members Lance and Larry (lead voice on ALL the hits) Hoppen, plus Dennis "Fly" Amero is an intimate, "unplugged" version of this prestigious and legendary group. Katrin, a rising star in North America and Europe, hails from the Boston area. She is the embodiment of pure talent... the likes of which we have not seen in a while.

Sit ye down, lads and lassies, and let me tell you about some real pirate movies.  They were made when Hollywood knew how to buckle a swash -- and they had stars like Douglas Fairbanks (“The Black Pirate,” 1926), Errol Flynn (“Captain Blood,” 1935) and Burt Lancaster (“The Crimson Pirate,” 1952).   So what if they didn’t have 3-D, surround sound and computer animation?  They had lusty men of iron aboard staunch ships of wood -- even if those ship were usually anchored on Hollywood sound stages.  

All of which brings me to this summer’s big pirate picture, “Pirates of the Caribbean: On Stranger Tides,” starring the elfin Johnny Depp and the sultry Penelope Cruz.  

As day one of the MMEA sponsored All State Music Festival came to a close, the 447 participating high school musicians were treated to 

entertainment with a twist.   Opening the program was Zac Stearns, a junior at Hall-Dale High School and member of the All State chorus,  

who warmed up the audience with his original stand up comedy routine.  He was followed by  a cappella singing group Ball in the House,

a five member male singing group based in Massachusetts.  Their renditions of songs from the 1970's to present day  were received by

enthusiastic students who  showed their appreciation with an impromptu dance session.
