The 4th Annual "Freezin' for a Reason" Portland Polar Dip to benefit Camp Sunshine will be held Saturday, Feb. 12, at Portland’s East End Beach.
WHERE: East End Beach, Portland, Maine
WHEN: Feb. 12, 2011 at Noon
COST: Every participant is encouraged to raise a minimum of $100 in pledges for Camp Sunshine and those who do will receive an “I DID IT!” t-shirt. All proceeds will benefit Camp Sunshine. To pledge online and for more information on the event, visit http://www.freezinforareason.com/. The goal is to raise $25,000 at the Portland Polar Dip, enough to fund more than a dozen additional families at Camp Sunshine.
Nestled alongside the shores of beautiful Sebago Lake in Casco, Camp Sunshine (http://www.campsunshine.org/) offers children with life-threatening illnesses and their families a place to relax together for a week and to take a break from the extraordinary demands placed on them on a daily basis. The year-round program is free of charge to the families and staffed almost entirely by volunteers. It is the only program in the nation whose mission is to address the impact of a life-threatening illness on every member of the immediate family.
Since Camp Sunshine opened in 1984, it has provided a haven for more than 32,000 family members from 48 states and 22 countries. In 2010, more than 750 families participated in Camp Sunshine’s programs. Multiple sessions are being added annually at Camp Sunshine, but sadly there are many more newly diagnosed children each year.
At the conclusion of the event, an after party will be held at Bull Feeney’s Pub on Fore Street.
