Fasten your seat belts, uber party planner Sid Tripp of Proactive Resources Design & DownEast Pride Alliance fame, is at it again this Halloween. On Saturday, October 30th, 2010, Tripp will be throwing his 15th annual Halloween Bash at Mariner's Church, featuring the bloodcurdling sounds of uber cover band Under The Covers.
Tripp is expecting 450-500 people at this year's Halloween gala event. Proceeds will benefit local charities, with the biggest benefactor being the DownEast Pride Alliance, the monthly non profit gay business networking event he started with Co-founder Leah Bartley, now in it’s third year and going strong.
The event will be held in the historic Mariner’s Church Grand Ball Room, at 368 Fore Street, in the heart of Portland's Old Port. Doors open at 8:00pm, and the bash will last till 1am. Under The Covers is a wildly popular local cover band with an uber following in Southern Maine.
The 6-piece cover band has been playing high-energy shows for more then 14 years. With an eclectic mix of music…specializing in Classic Rock, Blues and R&B, picking genres from the 50s, 60s, 70s, 80s, 90s…all the way up to today's contemporary music, Under the Covers lights up the stage for this haunting event.
Tripp points out that it is advised to purchase tickets in advance, as the event has sold out in years past.  Contact his office at (207)772-3599 to purchase tickets; all major credit cards are accepted.
Tripp is quick to point out that the top five costumes this year are Lady Gaga, Kim Jong Il, Snookie & the Situation, the mad Jet Blue Flight Attendant - Steven Slater, and the wild & crazy Tea baggers. He expects to see a lot of Snookies’s this year, both male & female versions, and probably a lot of Twilight characters, too, he said.

This year's theme is Vampires, and the band will be rocking the house to the likes of Spooky, Love Potion # 9, The Time Warp, I’m your Boogie Man, Rock Lobster, Werewolves of London, Ghostbusters and Monster Mash, as well as mainstream songs such as Amy Winehouse's Rehab, Son Of A Preacher Man, and Into The Mystic, to name just a few.
Tripp says "it's not unusual for people to fly in from California, Japan, Canada, the UK and L/A (Lewiston/Auburn) for the bash," he says with a devilish smile. "We have hundreds of fans on FaceBook, where we post all of the photos of the night." Uber photographer Brian Threlkeld has the daunting task of getting pix of all the great costumes, and recording the events of the evening for posterity. Tripp expects that his party will out live him, and be still going strong a hundred year's from now. So that's why he goes to great lengths to capture the essence of the bash, and is slowly enticing his niece Rachael to take a bigger interest in the party, as a possible candidate to inherit Sid Tripp’s Halloween Bash, "because it’s in her blood, too," no pun intended, Tripp says laughing.
For a party that was inspired by the Black Cat Balls of the 80s & 90s, and a certain wild & crazy weekend Halloween Bash that took place in Martha’s Vineyard in 1995 (the details of which Tripp won't elaborate on), Sid Tripp's Halloween Bash has taken on a life of it’s own. Thousands of people have attended Tripp's brainchild, and look forward to it every year, anxiously awaiting news of which band will perform (years past have seen the likes of Petting Zoo – the original band, Zion Train, The Awesome, Racer-X, Reverend Groove, etc.) Thousands of people have come together over the years to experience the magic Sid Tripp weaves every Halloween for Southern Maine. Don't miss out on the best Halloween Party, hands down, in Portland.  Sid Tripp's Halloween Bash is the stuff of legends. He welcomes you to come be a part of a major historic event, lovingly done from the black heart of Sid Tripp.
