What is Mesothelioma?

What is Mesothelioma?

No doubt you've seen commercials about mesothelioma and know that it is usually caused by exposure to asbestos and that there a lots of law firms in the country eager to represent victims. Have you ever met someone with mesothelioma? I haven't, but I was recently contacted by Cameron Von St. James, whose wife Heather was diagnosed with it seven years ago. He wanted to know if I would be interested in sharing their story on my Catching Health blog. At my request, he sent me additional information. When I started reading it, I quickly realized that they both write for a mesothelioma web site sponsored by a law firm, which raised a red flag for me. I told him so and decided that I needed to think carefully about how to proceed. My conclusion was Heather Von St.

Raymond oil resolution calls for "due diligence"

RAYMOND, Maine (AP) - The Maine town of Raymond is the latest to pass a resolution on the possibility of oil from western Canada passing through a pipeline running from Portland to Montreal.

But unlike other towns resolutions in Maine and Vermont that outright oppose so-called tar sands oil passing through the pipeline, Raymond's calls on state and federal officials to use the same "due diligence" in addressing the oil as it would any other similar project.

Selectmen passed the resolution in a unanimous vote Tuesday.

Critics say tar sands oil poses greater environmental and safety risks than conventional crude, but oil industry representatives disagree.

Homemade Fish Fry!

Homemade Fish Fry!

I made fish sticks for my family the other night and though it would be a good video for Nate's Kitchen so I documented the process on video!  I'm using about a pound of cod for this recipe but any firm, white fish will do.  Enjoy!

Welcome Spring By Starting a Container Garden

Welcome Spring By Starting a Container Garden

The M.O.G. is excited to embark on a new adventure this spring by documenting the process of planting an organic vegetable garden (in containers) for the first time. Maybe it will inspire a few of you to plant your own gardens as well! To view the original post, complete with the links to additional resources, go to http://mymogblog.com/starting-a-container-garden/

Now, just so we are all clear, we are not what anyone would consider "gardening experts." To be honest, gardening seemed like another language… until we started doing some research and realized how simple and enjoyable it can be. We checked out a few websites including “Successful Container Gardens” by the University of Illinois Extension, and the University of Maine Cooperative Extension where they have some really helpful videos on container gardening that walked us right through the process.

Movies: "Admission"

Movies: "Admission"

Unlike most of the rest of the country, I went to see “Admission.”

That is because the movie is set at Princeton University, my (ahem) alma mater.  In this, I was not disappointed.  The scenes of the sun-dappled campus, an appearance by the A capella group The Nassoons, and the sense that this is a truly place where really bright students study really great stuff were all pleasing.

Unfortunately, the movie was not so much.
