It was hatch day yesterday and so far 4 out of 6 eggs have hatched.  Check out this awesome video!

I just candled my eggs and found that 6 out of the remaining 11 eggs are viable.  Not that great of an average really but it's what I have to work with.  When you candle eggs look for a dark shadow that moves around as you rotate the egg.  Also look for blood vessels criss crossing the shell.  We're just a day or two away from the hatch!

Health Foundation Announces Grants to Improve Care at Five Community Mental Health Centers

$25,000 grants will support plans to connect patients who receive mental health services and substance abuse treatment with primary care providers

The Maine Health Access Foundation (MeHAF) announced today that its Board of Trustees has approved planning grants of $25,000 each to five nonprofit community mental health organizations to improve how basic primary care services are provided for people experiencing serious mental illness.  The organizations receiving awards are Aroostook Mental Health Services, Inc., Charlotte White Center, HealthReach Network Mental Health & Substance Abuse Services, The Opportunity Alliance, and Tri-County Mental Health Services.

Sadly my bees did not make it through the winter.  It's hard to say exactly why.  Perhaps they were weak or diseased or perhaps the queen did not lay enough eggs to replace their numbers.  Maybe they just couldn't generate enough heat?  It's a major blow to me but I think I will try again!
